Who is invited? Harpists of all ages! We welcome all harpists, but the workshop will be presented for an intermediate level of playing.  

 

What will I learn at the workshop? Mike Connors will teach a few Celtic songs to our group by ear. He will present information on improvisation, provide tips for memorization, give ideas for left-handed patterns, and he will “jam a little bit” with the group so we will be ready for fun times with other musicians. Sheet music for the tunes will be provided at the end of the workshop.

 

Where? The home of Coastal Carolina Chapter Vice President Julie Rehder (220 Hooker Rd., Wilmington, NC)

 

When? September 25, 2021 10 AM—2 PM

 

What to bring? Please bring your harp and a lunch to enjoy outside! There will be chairs available, but bring your harp bench if you have one that’s easily transportable. 

 

Covid accommodations: Please wear a mask! We will be spacing out in Julie’s house and eating our lunch outside.

Mike Connors is a Celtic harp performer, teacher, arranger, presenter, clinician, and adjudicator. He holds a master of music degree and was the recipient of a Scottish Harp Society of America Travel Scholarship to study in Scotland. He was also able to study and gather tunes in Ireland through an NC Regional Artist Grant. Mr. Connors directs a public school traditional harp program at Penn-Griffin School for the Arts in High Point, NC, where he has earned numerous awards including Teacher of the Year, the High Point Mayor’s Award for Arts Educator of the Year, and the Character.org Promising Practices Award. He is often the featured harper at Highland games and Celtic festivals.
